Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how information may be collected, used, stored or transmitted in connection with the MeteoPlan.app website and the MeteoPlan application.

The Legal Notices , the Terms of Use , the Privacy Policy and, for the website, the Cookie Policy (EU) define the general legal rules applicable to MétéoPlan.

Data collected

MétéoPlan may use certain information necessary for its features to function. The application is not intended to collect or track all user activities. The main personal data likely to be processed by the application is location data when used to obtain weather information for a location chosen by the user.

Access to the device’s location is optional. The user can use MétéoPlan without granting location access and record a location using the methods provided in the application.

Data usage

The information used by MétéoPlan is used in particular to provide weather forecasts, alerts and risk analyses associated with locations selected by the user.

The data is used only for purposes necessary for the operation of the relevant functionalities and is not used for targeted advertising or tracking the user’s movements.

Legal basis for processing

The data processing carried out by MétéoPlan is based, depending on the nature of the processing concerned, on the need to provide the functionalities requested by the user, on consent when required, on legitimate interest for certain contact requests or operation of the service, or on compliance with a legal obligation when such an obligation applies.

When access to the device’s location is requested, the user can refuse or withdraw this permission at any time in their device settings, provided that certain features requiring this permission may then no longer function.

Location data

When a user grants access to their location, it is only used to determine a weather location they wish to use or save. Users can manage location permissions in their device settings.

No GPS tracking function is used or available in the application. The location function is only used at the user’s request when recording or determining a location.

The location data used by MétéoPlan is processed solely to provide weather data corresponding to the user’s selected location. When necessary for the operation of the weather service, the coordinates corresponding to the selected location may be transmitted to the weather data provider used by MétéoPlan.

This data is not used to track the user’s movements and MétéoPlan does not implement any tracking or continuous monitoring functionality for the user’s position.

Data stored on the device

Certain information necessary for the application to function may be stored locally on the device, including saved locations, settings, and user-created alerts.

This data is stored locally on the terminal and is not transmitted to a MétéoPlan server for storage.

Depending on the device configuration, Google account settings, and applicable Android backup mechanisms, some data saved locally by the application may be included in system backups. These operations are managed by Android/Google backup services and may vary depending on the settings and versions used.

MétéoPlan does not directly control Android or Google backup mechanisms and does not guarantee that all application data will be backed up, preserved, or restored. In the event of a device change, application reinstallation, data deletion, or device restoration, some data may not be restored or may be restored incompletely.

Third-party services

The application may use external services necessary for providing weather data, distributing the application, managing purchases, or certain functionalities. The terms of use and privacy policies of these services may apply to their use.

The meteorological data used by MétéoPlan comes primarily from Open-Meteo.com . MétéoPlan uses, aggregates, and processes this meteorological data to provide the information, forecasts, and analyses offered in the application, as detailed in the Legal Notice.

When necessary to obtain meteorological data, the coordinates corresponding to the user’s selected location may be transmitted to the relevant meteorological service. This transmission is limited to what is required for the operation of the feature in question.

Regarding Google services, including Google Play and associated Android services, any processing carried out by Google is subject to Google’s own terms and privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy .

Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics: MétéoPlan uses Firebase services provided by Google to measure the use of certain features and to identify errors and technical issues with the application. These services may process information related to application usage, technical information about the device, and technical identifiers necessary for the operation of these services. Specifically, Firebase Analytics may process data related to interactions with the application and an approximate location inferred by Google. Firebase Crashlytics may process crash reports and diagnostic information necessary for error analysis. MétéoPlan does not use these services to track user movements and does not directly transmit to them the precise GPS coordinates of locations recorded in the application. The processing carried out by Firebase is subject to Google’s terms and privacy policy.

Nominatim / OpenStreetMap: MétéoPlan uses the Nominatim service for certain city and location searches performed by the user. The information entered in this search function may be transmitted to Nominatim to obtain the corresponding coordinates and geographic information. The processing carried out by this service is subject to its own terms and privacy policy.

Mapping: MétéoPlan uses the MapLibre library to display certain maps in the application. The map data used by this feature is provided by OpenFreeMap. Using this service may involve data exchanges necessary for displaying the maps. Data processing carried out by OpenFreeMap is subject to its own terms and privacy policy.

Google Play and in-app purchases

The paid subscriptions, options, and extensions offered in MétéoPlan are purchased through Google Play. MétéoPlan does not directly process payments or manage the payment methods used by the user.

Google Play notably handles, according to its own terms and procedures, transaction processing, invoicing, payment methods, renewals, and cancellation and refund procedures applicable to purchases made on its platform.

MétéoPlan may receive information from Google Play necessary to verify the purchase and to activate or maintain the rights and features corresponding to the subscription or option purchased. This information is used solely for managing the rights associated with purchases made within the application.

Conservation and security

We implement measures designed to protect the information used by the website and application against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Data is retained for as long as necessary for its use, the provision of the service, or the processing of the relevant request, or in accordance with applicable legal obligations.

Data stored locally in the application remains on the user’s terminal, subject to any Android or Google backup mechanisms described in this policy and transmissions necessary for the operation of external services used by MétéoPlan.

When location data is transmitted to a weather provider to obtain a forecast, this transmission is limited to the purpose for which the data is used. The storage and processing conditions applicable to that provider are governed by its own privacy policy.

The website does not collect personal data for tracking or advertising purposes. However, it may collect information voluntarily provided by the user when they use a contact form or submit a support request.

MétéoPlan does not use user accounts or a general database to centralize the personal data of its users. However, some data may be transmitted to, temporarily processed, or stored on MétéoPlan servers when necessary for the operation of certain features, including verifying Google Play purchases and sharing content.

When certain data must be transmitted to a third-party service to enable a feature to function, such as obtaining weather data or managing purchases made through Google Play, the transmission is limited to the information necessary for that specific feature. The processing carried out by these third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

MétéoPlan implements measures reasonably appropriate to its level to protect the data it processes directly. However, MétéoPlan does not control the security, backup, or storage mechanisms implemented by third-party services or the Android system.

Data saved locally within the application may, depending on the device configuration, Google account, and applicable Android backup mechanisms, be included in a system backup. MétéoPlan does not guarantee the backup, retention, or restoration of this data.

Data deletion

MétéoPlan does not offer a user account requiring registration with MétéoPlan. Data stored locally in the application can be deleted by the user using the features provided within the application or, depending on the data concerned, by deleting the application’s data or uninstalling it.

Data voluntarily provided in connection with a contact request may be subject to a request for deletion using the contact details indicated in the Legal Notice or in this policy, subject to data which must be kept in accordance with a legal obligation.

User rights

Under applicable regulations, users may have rights regarding their personal data, including rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection where applicable, and the right to data portability where the legal conditions are met.

When processing is based on the user’s consent, the user may withdraw their consent at any time, without this withdrawal affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out before it.

To exercise their rights or obtain information regarding the processing of their personal data, the user can use the contact details provided in the Legal Notice or in this policy.
